Peter - this sounds like an emulator issue to me. Trying a different emulator may fix the problem. I much prefer FCE Ultra, but there's at least one NES ROM I know of that it doesn't like. :-)

I'm still having problems with huge black squares on the portraits when I open and close the menu, though - whenever I press Start to open the menu I see those black areas where the portraits eventually appear.
Does anyone know the reason for this?
I remember those areas used to be blue like the rest of the menu window before.
I know it's not a very serious problem, but I'm pretty sensitive to details and prefer the best quality in any game I play.
