i have noticced that ff7 disk download buttons link to files
that contain "disk 2, disk 2, and disk 3.

It's probably way to late to ask now, but, what kind of problems? Is the unpacker reporting the ZIP files corrupted, are the file formats coming out all weird? If you can supply specific error messages, it might help those reading the message board here to help out a bit better.
