Thanks for the recommendation! I didn't mean to be snotty about those other rpg's, but sometimes ya want something a little more dynamic, y'know?

Hehe. The type of game there you are describing is called an "RPG" (Role-Playing Game.) If you've tried one for more than a few seconds, you might like it. Most RPG's rely on a good story if you can get past the first couple hours.
The only thing that comes to mind for the type of game you want is called "Blackthorne" for SNES. Its a combination of side scrolling action and strategy. It peridically gives you save codes as you progress, and its made by Blizzard. Otherwise.... um... Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, and Contra III are as close as I can think of right nah.
