Temporarily assign L and R to the same key. *nt*

Hi guys. I'm new here. Anyway, I downloaded the Chrono Trigger ROM and am playing it on the ZSNES emulator. I'm currently at the part where you first get to the futuristic era. I defeated the robot guardian at the Arris Dome and found out the password for the security door by chasing that rat creature(the code is hold L+R, press A ,FYI). For L, R, and A, the buttons I used on the keyboard were Q,W and X respectively. I get NO RESPONSE at all when trying to put the code in. I tried it an innumerable amount of times. Is this a glitch on the ROM or what? Thanks in advance.
