I've never used a version of Windows 8 that required you to Log In to an MS account. But there's more than Windows 8 version available. All your other complaints are quite common, though.

Upgraded to Windows 8.1 and it's starting to get frustrating. Windows Update is horrible, the metro/start screen is just junk, the apps are pointless, and windows programs are constantly running eating up resources. Does anyone know why I need to log in to a Microsoft account to turn on Windows? I was planning on getting a SSD for quicker booting, but I'm starting to not see the point if Microsoft is going to make me stop and log in every time. What if my network or their server is down? Will I not have access to my PC because I can't log in to a Microsoft account? How do I turn that shit off?
