Thanks Vimm! I was using version 1.51 of SNES9x. I updated to 1.53 and it is now working. Much appreciated!!
Star Ocean is one of those games with a custom chip that wasn't emulated for a very long time, and without it all the graphics are garbled. I believe SNES9x 1.53 supports it. If not the latest development build of ZSNES surely would.
