For memorability, you can't touch Chrono Trigger. Squaresoft took a huge chance by letting Yasunori Mitsuda into the CT dream team to compose the majority of the music, and he worked his ass off to let everybody know he was worth it. I read a rumor that he was putting in 20+ hour days at the Squaresoft production studio for months and months, drinking several bottles of sake a day, which eventually led to a stomach ulcer and extremely poor health. In the end, Nobuo Uematsu was brought in to finish the remaining tracks, but the amount of effort Mitsuda put in before he got sick left the game with an extremely polished, original, near-perfect soundtrack.
