N64 Rom Woes

Um I have the rom for Mischief Makers but it's nearly impossible to jump in the game. I played the actual game last night at my friends to see what the jump is actually supposed to be like and it's nothing like it is in the rom. In the rom you have to hit both the A and B buttons together at the right time to get the character to jump but on the actual game you only have to hit the A button for the jump to happen. Any suggestions would be awesome!
