megaman x for zsnes is acting funny.....

no matter what stage i choose, in the middle of the stage it says i have gained the powers of that boss and takes me back to the stage select screen. when i choose a boss, i start the stage without any of the powers i supposedly gained. any suggestions besides trying the other snes emulator. i fiddled with it and really dont like it. "It's never what you do, but how it's done."
