Does the emulator you're using have a compatibility list? And if so, did you check it? Because this sounds like a problem with the emulator.
The GBA port is buggy and crashes on GBARunner2.. I can’t play it because it crashes my DSi before I even leave the first room and the screen flashes with background light. I know it’s not just my emulator, because I deleted it, reinstalled it, and it came up with the same problem.
