Paladin's Quest

A nice, long RPG. The first part of the game has a lot of town-saving sequences. It picks up after that, once your characters get past level 25 or so. This is definitely the game. Or at least, it's a fun game anyway. (And has absolutely nothing to do with paladins!) (Oh, and I tried submitting a review for it here, twice. Wonder why it never got published.....might have been too long) ------------

I don't know what it's called, and I have a vague memory of it from when my brothers played it.

The battle system involves simply pressing the D-pad to perform an action (without the need of pressing the A button or something else for confirmation) and the cursor looks like the D-pad. Below is your options during battle on the left-side of the screen:

.............|----------|
.............|ACTION|
.............|----------|

|----------|..............|----------|
|ACTION|.............|ACTION|
|----------|..............|----------|

|----------|.....|/\|.....|----------|
|ACTION| |<.....>| |ACTION|
|----------|.....|\/|.....|----------|

.............|----------|
.............|ACTION|
.............|----------|

(Periods used for spacing purposes only) Then you'd have the monsters in the background. I can't recall if your characters are displayed on the screen or not, or where or what stats are displayed. I somehow remembered it from a long time ago when my brothers played it while I watched, so it was definitely released in North America. Now I can't get it out of my head and it's driving me crazy. =\
