What emulator are you using? (and did you read the "readme.txt" that came with it?)
What game are you trying, and what code?
Also, if you could give step-by-step instructions of what you are doing, we could pinpoint the problem.
Personally, I use the memory-search function and create my own cheats. (I don't know what emulators have it, but FCEU does)
