The 16-bit SNES version is not at all the 8-bit version. The 16-bit has a totally different feel. When someone asks for the Famicom SMB 2 they clearly mean the 8-bit Famicom version. If they go play the 16-bit version they arent getting what they want

The NES version is called "Super Mario Bros. 2" in Japan. It was renamed to "The Lost Levels" when it was repackaged for the SNES. Beware, because the mapper of this ROM isn't very emulator-friendly.
