Mother 3 Not Working in GBA Player 2

Not sure if this is more a problem with the emulator or what, but anytime I start the ROM, it boots up just fine and plays until after you do your character naming. But as soon as the game officially starts, I'm seeing "knock knock. knock knock", then the screen just goes black and nothing happens.
