Yeah I heard that MelonDS has wifi and DeSmuME surprisingly doesn't. Didn't realize Desmume was so bad with GPU though. Though I will say that sounds to me like the crashing and overheating is a problem with your computer, since I've used Desmume on two different PCs - a mid range PC with a GTX 1060 and an office one with an HD 4600, and both worked fine with it.

I find MelonDS to be just as good as DeSmuME and less resource intensive. As in, DeSmuME actually uses the GPU even when there's no game loaded (I've had my computer crash due to that causing overheating). MelonDS doesn't do that.

MelonDS can also do wifi stuff which DeSmuME cannot.
