Yeah, you can do that. I have a suggestion for the button layout:
Directional Buttons: Arrow Keys (Duh!)
A: Num 3
B: Num 2
Select: Num 0
Start: Num .

You can find out by going to the options or config menu and selecting player 1 or input 1 and looking at what it is set to or change it to somthing better.
