This seems to be a known problem at the Zsnes forums:

That bug seems to be a problem with the current version of Zsnes and they recommend using an older version, 1.42 or 1.36.
From what people have been saying, it seems like you'd be lucky if that's the only bug you encounter :-\.
Yeah I got it to work and I am using the same emulator but when I finally get a second party member and then go to equip something to them the game always freeze. Anybody knows why or what to do about it.
