The wii can run both VC NES games and non-VC games, though homebrew is required.

For games that were officially sold for the wii (VC games), all you need to do is download the .wad of the game and install it (they can be found in the WiiWare vault, with the "Virtual Console" tag checked). Keep in mind there is a 40* title limit for the wii menu, and limited storage space.

You also have the option of using NES roms. These games will require an emulator to run and will not show up on the wii menu, but you will not encounter the same limitations that the VC games have (40 titles, limited space, and limited support).

*You can use some homebrew apps to partially bypass this limit by changing which 40 titles are displayed, but its probably more of a hassle than its worth

I recently booted up my Wii and saw the original Mario Bros. and Mario Bros. 3 on my channel home screen. I had bought them back in the day and I am now wanting to get more NES games. Is there a way for me to rip NES games onto the Wii? Can I just rip the ROM's straight from the NES section and transfer the files over or do i have to go through some other kind of process? If not, are there rips of the old NES games that were sold on the Wii Shop Channel?
