PS3 ROMs and Multiman

I have a jail broken PS3 and Multiman installed. I am having issues playing some of the games I have downloaded. While reviewing videos I saw some people have a the update file. Do I need the PS3UPDAT.PUP file or should the game run without this file? If I need that file, where can I get it?
