ROM Problem - Super Mario RPG

Yeah, I'm having a problem playing Super Mario RPG. I've had this problem before on a different PC so I'm not sure what is causing it. Basically the ROM loads just fine but when I press Start at the title screen, while it's changing it goes black and stays that way. In the past when this has happened the ROM would sometimes go farther than the title screen but during the game while the screens were changing it would go black and stay that way. It would happen at random times but always during a screen change. I'm currently using SNES9x but I have tried ZSNES in the past and still had the same problem. Any suggestions?
