A new zoom option was added to all online manuals last weekend and seems to be working well. On the lower right corner of each manual the resolution of the image is shown in dpi (dots per inch) and it can be resized by changing that value from as low as 50 to as high as the page was scanned at (provided the contributor set the correct scanning resolution). So now people with smaller monitors or slower connections can view smaller images while people with larger monitors and/or faster connections can view larger images. This also works with downloadable manuals though the layout of The Manual Project will probably have to be changed a bit to accommodate it. There's only so much data you can cram into one line and a resolution selector would need another chunk, so all manual details will likely be split off on to a separate page much like how The Vault currently works. Also, there was a bug preventing many manuals from being viewed past page one which has been fixed.
The new changes to The Manual Project are complete. The old column for downloading vlm's / pdf's now shows the max resolution instead, and clicking on the manuals' title now leads to a details page instead of loading the online viewer. From there the online viewer can be opened and the manual can also be downloaded at the chosen resolution. If anyone has any problems with the new system, please report them on the Message Board.
