Citra was open source so the code must be host in a lot of places and probably someone will use it to fork another emulator in the coming... years...
Back in the day Nintendo tried to block the UltraHLE emulator for the N64 and their actions led to the creation of Project64 and then Muppen, Simple64...
Right now the latest nightly for Citra can be obtain from places like the Internet Archive, Wayback Machine, etc. I think it's version 2104. Same thing for Yuzu
Couple of months ago, Nintendo threatened Valve because of the upcoming version of Dolphin on the SteamDeck, sure: Valve complied and stopped that but mates at Dolphin didn't bite it and yes, Nintendo went after Dolphin too.

I don't know. Someone else has to take up the mantle and go through the long process of making a functioning emulator. Also Nintendo sucks, I love their games but they suck.
