It isn't Sega, but... Armed Dragon Fantasy Villgust (NES) Actually, I don't think this one is right (no holes to jump, for example), but the "village to village" and animals part seems right.

i remember playing this game on Sega Channel, it was similar to Final Fantasy or the classic Zeldas. i am pretty sure the character you play as was a fox(or similar animal) traveling from village to village you talk to other animal type people(everybody is standing, dressed, etc) i THINK there were monsters to fight but mainly i remember lots of trees, green grass, cliffs, caves and water/waterfalls. there were ledges to climb, holes to jump, broken bridges, rocks and other such obstacles to challenge you in your path.
