And that's a fine example of why I keep patched ROMs in The Vault.
On a somewhat related topic, I'm just finishing up a new filter feature for the Vault in the NES and SNES sections. It lets you easily include or exclude categories from the listings, such as japanese games or translations, and it remembers your choices for the browser session. I'm still fiddling with the presentation but it's working nicely.
Go for it. Although I really haven't given a damn about a translation since Tales of Phantasia.
I dunno what's up with Dragon Quest III. I've tried two different ROMs of it, tried using the auto-patch function on Zsnes and Snes9x, tried using IPS-XP, the original IPS.exe (Dos), and Ninja Patcher and still can't get any farther than a screne that says who translated it.
