The store was created after the .com burst of 2000 as a way to cover expenses as the advertising industry collapsed. As I mention in the store policy, all my proceeds go to the continued maintenance of Vimm's Lair.
I have received some donations in the past and sold games via split profit for friends and acquaintances. (If anyone knows SlowMotionRiot's address I have a long overdue check for him.) The difficulty is getting the games to me. Most games are worth very little so it's often not worth the cost of shipping, unless you live in the Baltimore/DC area and could exchange them in person.
Can we contribute to the store? Could we also make some money from the store from our contributions?
