Yeah I couldn't replicate any problems or find any similar complaints online about it. I did read that someone suggest checking the (virtual) memory cards in the emulator and make sure they are there and not full. The idea being that after you create your character, the game is trying to autosave, fails to see a valid memory card, and the emulator freaks out and crashes.
I've heard this game runs fine with pSX as well.
works fine for me with ePSXe. could just be the emulator doesn't support it? it might say something about it in the help file if there is one. have you check that out yet?
