Upgrade editions regularly go on sale at NewEgg for $80, and I picked up a family 3-pack on Amazon for $100. It's not cheap, but seems fairly reasonable given I skipped Vista. I've got nothing against other OS's but if you want to do any real gaming you kinda need Windows...
I'm currently moving from Windows 7 to Ubuntu v11.10. I'm also eagerly awaiting v12, to be released on the 26th.
It's funny, but WINE for Ubuntu actually runs 90% of the programs that Windows 7 can't, and Ubuntu is free and open-source. Win7 costs *how* much again? :-/
