It doesn't really count on this list, but the weirdest games I played were for the Atari 2600. Most of the Atari's colors were *not* bright and cartoonish, so with those blocky, pixellated images, you got some pretty strange results sometimes. I actually plan to review some of the games in an online video review.

There must be plenty of weird games; looking at the list just reminded me how many of these I haven't played yet.
I don't know about weirdest, but Drakkhen (SNES) has its moments. The Wiki page tells some of the strange. Lots of odd noises and things popping up unexpectedly. Music changes on a dime from dirge-like to something suitable for aerobic exercise. It's a slow paced game, but still a good play.
The Golgo 13 (NES) games don't look too weird at first, but protagonist Duke Togo smokes cigarettes to increase his health(!) and even gets himself some lovin' from time to time (also increases health). He's a man of few words and even fewer promises. Here's some sample dialogue, made up but similar in delivery:
Tough Guy: "At last I have you, Duke!"
Duke Togo: "...."
Tough Guy: "You'll not escape me this time!"
Duke Togo: "...."
Tough Guy: "If you have any objection to our union, speak now or forever hold your peace!"
Duke Togo: "...."
Tough Guy: Do you, Duke Togo, promise to love and to honor me, in sickness and in health, for all the days of your life?
Duke Togo: "I'll see what I can do."
