fo, my Agere WinModem, so I'm not inclined to think that it's faulty. In fact, it has an excellent track record.

But drivers can get corrupted for a number of reasons, I'm told, and I did want to be sure that the problem wasn't at my end before contacting the phone company.

Deleting the modem from my Device Manager and letting it re-detect brought no change. Rolling back the driver did no good either; not only did it fail to resolve the problem, but now I was left with a Lucent WinModem.

This Lucent driver has got no character; just a few muted beeps and chirps when it dials up. I already miss the brassy honk-and-squeal that my Agere WinModem makes when connecting; it sounds like a goose and a pig f*drop*

grams and stuff. Maybe get to some of the things I'm always meaning to do offline. Haven't defragged in over a year...

I wanted to be sure the problem wasn't at my end so I dialed up using an alternate number; no improvement. Even spoke to my ISP IRL to verify that no one else is having the problem. They suggested that it could be a bad modem. True enough; it's a bad mo*drop*
