Re: METROID fans: recommend a game?

Seems you like platformers. You can't go wrong with Mario games, if you haven't played them. The Donkey Kong Country series is also great. Kirby's games are fun, if you can get used to the "for ages 10 and under" aspect. If you're into the more shooter platform games like Metroid, try the Megaman X games. Super Turrican is also an awesome game. And Super Castlevania 4. And the Super Star Wars games. Contra III is cool, but kind of simplistic... and fucking hard. If traditional RPGs bore you, try some action-RPGs. Good ones that don't have a lot of dialogue are Zelda: Link to the Past, Soul Blazer, and EVO. If you have a Gamecube, you have to play Metroid Prime. It's very different from Super Metroid, but it's just as good. I just got a used Gamecube today with that game and 17 others. Wicked stuff, man.

I'm blown away by the sound, graphics, and gameplay of Super Metroid, and love how you do real fighting, unlike those other games (Final Fantasy3, Earthbound, Robotrek, Dragonquest, etc) that throw up a generic background and auto-stage the fight for you while displaying the math (yawn). Can any of you retro gamers recommend an SNES game that's as good as Metroid, or at least close? Another tasty aspect of Metroid is that it's completely free of those tedious text conversations. Gods and Castlevania are close... are there others?
