Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it. He's been with me for almost as far as I can remember so it was extremely hard to let go. He didn't seem to be in any pain but on his final morning he was so weak he could barely walk, so it was definitely time. I'm glad I had so much time to say goodbye. I had expected him to spend the morning in my lap but since he went to the effort to track down his sunbeam I just couldn't take that away from him.
Goodbye Alfred, I'll miss you.
