Thank you so much for this clear answer! I'm happy now :) vimm's lair rocks!
They are the original unmodified ROMs. Vimm's Lair is about being true to the games as they were originally released. But as to why the Japanese-to-English translations also exist in the vault ... Well, I'll have to leave that answer to Vimm. :-P
