SNES9x vs. ZSNES
Posted by Syntax on .
I wasn't going to add anything else, but Thanatos inspired me to try out SNES9x again for the hell of it, and I just have to say something.
Why the hell does anybody use this emulator?
Everything about it sucks. The image quality sucks, the sound sucks, the control sucks, and the interface really sucks. Not only that, but ZSNES does everything better than SNES9x. Don't believe me? I took the liberty of taking some side-by-side images of SNES9x and ZSNES to compare the difference.

Exhibit A
ZSNES:
Not much to comment on, other than it must be hard to play that guitar with no fingers.
SNES9x:
This is the exact same scene on SNES9x with the exact same settings, yet it looks considerably shittier. The whole image looks grainy and the letters look especially fuzzy around the edges, even though I'm using the same 2xSal video filter. It took a while to take this picture because the screen kept flickering every few seconds for no apparent reason. I thought my monitor was finally crapping out, then I remembered that SNES9x just sucks. I tried to capture a flicker shot, but it's practically impossible to capture something that only lasts a split second. It should also be noted that the image looks flattened because SNES9x doesn't run at a full 800x600, even though that's what I set it to.
What the hell are all those bright green dots all over the grass anyway? If I wanted to step all over green shit everywhere I went, I'd hang out at a drug dealer's house. Upon closer inspection it looks like some kind of octopus, wait, nevermind, SNES9x just sucks.
Exhibit B
ZSNES:
A nice selection of weapons ready to kick some ass.
SNES9x:
Alright, I take it back. I was able to capture one of the screen flickers. Don't you just love playing a game when all of a sudden the bottom half of the screen pukes its guts out on you? I mean, glitches are part of the experience right?
Wtf is an eroPike anyway? Ero means perverted in Japanese, so not only does my weapon look like shit, but it's perverted too? Great.
Note: It took me 10 god damn minutes trying to set the controls for SNES9x so that I could go into my inventory. Setting controls for ZSNES goes off without a hitch, but in SNES9x everything has to be fucking pandemonium. In the end I just gave up and used the keyboard.
Same shit, same ugliness. Next.
Xzibit C. word.
ZSNES:
What you see in the background is a pimp water effect courtesy of ZSNES. Wait, did I say pimp? I meant crappy. Who the hell wants a cool water effect ruining their day? Not me. What a shitty interface!
SNES9x:
Now that's what I'm talking about! Take note Team ZSNES: this is how an interface should be done. Look at those streamlined, user-friendly windows and those awesome folder icon graphics. What a great interface! 10/10

God, I'm done. I don't understand why anyone would use an inferior product when all the choices are free. That's like choosing Johnross' mom out of a selection of a dozen attractive women. What a waste of time. I'm never using this program again.
P.S. Ironically, I didn't have the fuzzy sound issues that you mentioned. Make sure you enable 16-bit sound, or better yet, take a hint from this whole rant and switch to ZSNES.
