Hack Description:
Comrade, the Motherland is in danger.
The day grew cold. The scourge of capitalism has risen. Enemies of communism threaten the USSR.
Join Comrade Mario on an epic mission to extinguish the source of capitalism. The journey will be familiar, yet new and crisp; the levels in Communist Mario 3 are the same as the original. The twist? Coins will harm and kill Comrade Mario. Avoid them, since they are the idol of capitalist pigs.
This hack is a sequel to Communist Mario, a SMB1 hack by setz, who happens to be the inspiration of this hack. It can be found here: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/2365/
Important changes:
Global graphics animation has been improved. This means instead of the normal 4 frames of animation, there are 16 frames that animate in the same time frame as the 4. All instances of 1-Ups have been removed, and the lives counter now counts deaths instead. Everywhere there was a 1-Up, a mushroom resides instead. Items are more plentiful, so don't be afraid to use them up. Goal cards have been removed, and the level just ends when reached. All worlds have been redesigned to fit the theme and have their own graphics page.
Yes, World 6 music is weird. In the process of editing, changes were made to figure out the format. The changes were left in after it was decided that the result sounded creepy and dead like the tundras of Russia would be. Also, the original W6 music sucked.
There are a few things that aren't perfect. More effort could have been made, but there just wasn't enough time to work through it all. Also, coding limitations. Please don't hesitate to point out a bug or give constructive criticism though.
