Game Description:
The fourth and last game in the traditional series of Phantasy Star. There was a bit of change to see in this one, but it's still a very good game. This game, by the way, takes place 1,000 years after the time of Phantasy Star II.
You start out on the world of Motavia, controlling a woman named Alys Brangwin, and her just-promoted full-fledged partner, Chaz Ashley. You are members of a guild, known as Hunters, hired to exterminate monsters and investigate odd goings-on. It starts out with you heading to a town known for it's high learning, known as Piata.
There is a new system introduced in this game, where you can create pre-set battle commands for everyone in the group known as a Macro. This is useful for not having to hit the same button for people every time in a fight, and for pre-setting combination attacks which can be done with two or more characters.
There is a lot of humour in this installment, especially between Chaz and another character named Rune Walsh. There is also a command in the menu called Talk, which will sometimes give you a little insight on a character and will also remind you of what you're supposed to be doing right now in case you forget something.
Don't pass this up if you get a chance to play it, it's the kind of game you can enjoy easily without having to play every other one first. (I played this one first, and it prompted me to try the others)

Phantasy Star Generation:4 is a comprehensive retranslation and relocalization of PSIV, utilizing fan-translated PS scripts and resources and PS team interview, and created by a professional writer/editor team.
(Includes most recent Purist + WD patches, translated PSIV Motavia map, technique/skills guide, and PS hacking guide)
As SEGA canceled "Phantasy Star Generation:4" many years ago, this project aimed to create a definitive, series-ending Phantasy Star experience.
Goals:
-Restore every mistranslated connection to the other PS games
-Incorporate The Cutting Room Floor's retranslation notes to best express Japanese creators' meaning & intent in all dialog, esp. story dialog
-A more colloquial, readable, and emotional script (from NPCs to main story)
-Add and Correct PS lore gathered from PS team interviews and official SEGA resources
-Add depth to character personalities and relationships
-Explain the few plot holes and character choices that had been given no in-game reasoning (see project site for details -- spoilers)
-AP-Style edited (grammar, capitalization, spelling/wording)
-Restore censored content (A couple monsters re-added)
-Item descriptions for late-game gear that had none
-Minor endgame character / item rebalancing
-More accurate translation of proper nouns/items/monsters/etc.
-Made some vague PS-series lore connections more obvious
-Translated "comedic" character's mis- and untranslated jokes
-Include lory1990 bugfixes
NEW in ver 7.X: Added dialog to 3 story scenes connecting one of the major antagonists to a party member, per an unearthed, recent developer interview.
We now have a clearer understanding of these two characters' motivations, and as well as how they came to be where they are at the start of PSIV. In the author's opinion, this revelation (which was cut because of deadlines) mends the only weak part of PSIV's story.
****NOTE: The two patches are 99% the same.****
Do not fret over which to try. See below for more explanation.

There are two main versions of the patch, but they are 99.9% the same. The WD patch just adds an extremely small amount of editorial NPC and non-story dialog.
"WD" is the writing style. It does NOT add pop-culture references, nor sexual or toilet jokes.
If you're otherwise a fan of Working Designs-style RPG writing (specifically Lunar and Lunar: EB on SEGA CD), you might best enjoy the WD additions.
NOTE on Character Names/Proper Nouns: Almost every English-speaking PS fan has their preferences for PS terms. Feel free to contact the author (if you'd like a version with all Japanese names, for instance) about custom patches.
