Clearly they had hi-res models because the battles were fully 3-D and those models looked a heck of a lot nicer. I never knew the development had been cut short though. I knew that Barret lost his gang-speech after disc one but figured that was just a localization time shortage.

Just make sure you don't put that Save Crystal right down on the stone blocks :P
Oh, and Vimm, nice rant. I agree on the music thing, the new Star Ocean's soundtrack makes me sick. Not only does most music lack ANY melody, it's totally unfitting in many areas. POP MUSIC FOR ANCIENT RUINS WTFLOL.
Anyway, about Final Fantasy VII, it's a rather unfortunate story. The game's production was cut short. Some story elements were removed or unfinished, and they never had a chance to make high-detail models. They completed only 2 1/2 hi-rez models: Cloud (with a glitched leg) and Jessie's upper body. Some guy cracked the PC version, found the models, and applied them to the game so he can play them (after fixing Cloud's leg of course, it used to come out of his shoulder :P). They looked rather nice, It's a shame they weren't finished.
