I'll just get straight into it, this game is one of the greatest fighting games of all time. The sheer variety of ways to play the game, combined with some of the most well-known fighting game characters and properties and irresistibly catchy tunes make this one of the most fun games to play in any situation. Capcom VS SNK 2 is a damn near perfect game.

The games' presentation is extremely unique for the time, with the menus, character selection, announcement and more being shown as if it was being broadcasted worldwide. The charming 3D backgrounds compliment this with the locations taking place all around the world in addition to being loaded with cameos from SNK and Capcom characters alike. The biggest problem with the graphics come from some of the characters, with the new characters and SNK fighters looking very eye-catching, but lots of the Capcom combatants having their sprites ripped from much older games.

Sound: 10
I thought about it long and hard, but there is literally nothing wrong I can find with the sound in this game. Landed attacks on the opponent carry impact through their sounds, and pulling off a dramatic finish and hearing the K.O noise is music to my ears. Speaking of music to my my ears, the soundtrack to this game is top-notch, well-made, and iconic within the FGC. The announcer is loaded with personality and quotable lines, and adds to the aforementioned presentation of the game. The voice lines all sound very good, and may be some of the best I've heard from a fighting game this old.

I'll start with the bad things about the gameplay: the game is kind of unbalanced. That ends that section, now let's get to the good stuff. The very way you play the game can be customized to your liking with 6 styles of fighting known as grooves that each play like a game made by either Capcom or SNK, with an option to make your own groove being made available later on. You can select 1, 2 or 3 characters using the ratio system, which gives each player 4 points of power to assign to 1-3 characters. You could have two 1 ratio and one 2 ratio character, one 3 ratio and one 1 ratio character, or just a single 4 ratio character. Each of the 48 characters feels good to play as, and many go together like peanut butter and chocolate when put in a team together. There is even a simplified control scheme for players who don't want to deal with complicated inputs and arcade-style buttons.

Overall: 9
Aside from minor problems such as a bit of an inconsistent art style and not much balance, CVS2 is a game I cannot recommend highly enough. Every little thing about it is iconic, from the sheer abundance of characters, to the amazing groove and ratio systems, and the amazing sound design. You'd be a fool if you didn't at least try this game out, because Capcom VS SNK 2 is some of the most fun you can have in a fighting game, period.

So, what are you waiting for? Go get this game!
