The menu NOW says "update available" under the version column. For Portal 2, my rom say 1.0, the new download says 1.01! However, the Orange Box says version 1.0 on both MY rom and the download that's here on the website. And frankly, those guys talk to technical for me to follow.
If you follow the issue pages on Github you can see whether the compatibility improves with future updates.
