My apologies. I offered to get someone's machine up and running by booting off a CD, thus skipping the "Password?" window. Turns out it didn't work, because the password system was run through the bios; the prompt couldn't be bypassed. I was left with no choice but to move it all to another motherboard. Not fun.

I've never heard of an emulator causing a problem like yours, and I've used emulators for over 15 years. I suspect you were either hijacked by a hacker, or you were the victim of a virus or trojan.
I suggest you try out a firewall of some sort.
