| Set on Dinosaur Planet, Star Fox Adventures follows Fox McCloud as he attempts to save the planet form destruction.
Graphics: 10 Aesthetically this game has aged like a fine wine- the texture work is fantastic and any area related to the Krazoa has more atmosphere and charm than some games with 10x the budget and development time. Sound: 9 A fantastic score is mixed with some pretty solid voice acting. Fox and Tricky can be a tad inconsistent and some audio samples are noticeably crunchy (which is unfortunately most of Fox's attack sounds) but otherwise great sound work. Gameplay: 8 This is a typical Zelda-style adventure game with classic Star Fox gameplay used for travel between the planet's chunks. The combat especially early game is nothing spectacular but you would mainly be here for everything else. The beginning is a tad tutorial heavy and spoils a few mechanics with popup tutorials. Overall: 9 I think Star Fox Adventures holds up amazingly well and still looks stunning visually, gameplay wise it's still as fun as it always was- a great adventure game with an interesting concept and great execution especially given the reworks and console conversions that occurred during development. This game holds a special place in my heart as it was one of the few GameCube games we had when I was growing up. It's a wonder I didn't become a furry given what I played at that age as well. |
