Because I was thinking about how my scans were 2000-something pixels on each side, but people don't usually look at the manuals that close-up.  So I thought I might as well reduce the resolution to something closer to the size of people's desktops, and then be able to compress the images less while maintaining the same size.  Well, I actually tried compressing an original-size harvest moon image enough so that it was about the same size as my previous images, and it actually looked pretty good, even though the compression was much heavier. Is that what you're talking about?

as for pngs, would you be compressing those before making a VLM/PDF?  I'm just thinking that we want people with dial-up to be able to download these, too.

Why are you lowering the resolution? The original files would be much preferred and give people more options. Also, png is preferred over jpg if you've got the time and/or bandwidth to upload them.

I've just gotten a new image zooming script working but I need to install some stuff on the server to make it work. Hopefully I'll get it all worked out this weekend. As long as you enter the resolution the image is at it should zoom properly.
