One of my favorite games of all time. Love the story and the characters, despite the occasional questionable writing decision.

This game has such a good art style. The designs of the characters, weapons/equipment, and environments are just beautiful. The Wii doesn't quite do it justice though, and even playing it on my Wii U (which is more powerful, but I'm not sure if that factors in when playing Wii games) the final boss makes the console LAG. Would love to see the same art style in HD graphics.

Some banger tracks in here for sure. Manages to capture serious, heartfelt moments and dramatic battles without feeling like it's trying too hard to be dramatic and deep.

Gameplay: 7
Yeah, the game's combat isn't very complex and certainly has issues, but I still have fun with it. Part of the problem is that automatic attacking is turned on by default, which is a very, very bad thing. For some reason it doesn't just make you attack automatically, it also boosts the strength of your attacks. If you turn this off combat is much more engaging, forcing you to time your attacks and allowing you to make your way through crowds if you want instead of stopping and smacking them all one by one. Your special moves are a bit easy to abuse. Giving every party member five free revives is also a bit excessive, and overall the game ends up being pretty easy.

For me, the enjoyment in the combat isn't really about whether or not I'll survive an encounter, but how much I can optimize it. If you don't like games that are on the simpler side, but still have appeal in optimization, then this one probably isn't for you. There's a reason you play as a speedster swordsman instead of a caster - your job is to figure out which enemies pose the biggest threat to your team, decide how to take them out or disable them, and move on to the next threat as fast as possible. The only problem is that if you don't do that and just bumble around the battlefield, you'll probably still win anyway.
Gathering is such an exciting concept for a signature ability, it just feels so satisfying to walk into a room full of enemies and say "Every single one of you is targeting me now." I just wish it was riskier to use and you had to stop the effect more often, since the entire ideology behind the game's combat is managing chaos and order.

Overall: 10
Not really an objective score, but I just love this game too much. If you go into this one with an open mind, you're going to have a lot of fun one way or another. It's a game you can love ironically and unironically depending on what you like in a game, what types of flaws are deal-breakers for you, and how you approach it. Probably my most wanted remake ever if I'm being honest. I would love a complete overhaul that keeps the charm of the story and characters and the overall combat design, but revamps the controls (removing auto-attack as an option entirely, adding separate inputs for Gale and other moves, letting you use Power Strike without needing Command Mode by hitting a specific button, etc.), makes combos a bit deeper, limits revives, reworks the special moves (like Slash and Vertical Slice), adds an option for gyro aiming for the crossbow (and maybe lets you run-and-gun just a little bit) and makes Gathering more risky. As a bonus, they could even add the option to play as different characters in moments that aren't as crucial to the plot. I'd love to see it. This game means a lot to me and I hope you enjoy it.

If you're trying this game for the first time, be sure to turn of auto-attack in the settings. Makes combat much more engaging.

This game is good and bad at the same time.

Graphics: 8
The graphics are standard Wii stuff people should be used to. Everything in the game is really sad looking though. (for story reasons probably) And whenever you're somewhere nice it just looks x10 nicer because everywhere else is cold and dim.

There's some strategy and the game can be hard sometimes but the gameplay is less than memorable.

This is like the room of JRPG's in some ways. The voice acting is amazing sometimes but ugghhhhh other times. The story is generic but also kinda unique. It's just a game about a boy wanting to become a knight and falling in love as he realizes what the world is around him. Generic, but fun if you're in the mood.

I personally love this game for no reason. It's one of my favorite games ever and I don't know why. It's hard to recommend this game to people because whenever I describe it they say "Dude, that sounds awful" and I'm like "yeah! I love it!" So who knows. Oh and even though it's a JRPG it's not THAT long.
