Way back when I was younger, my older brother received an SNES and Mega Man X as a birthday present. Little did he know that I would be the one playing it most of the time.

Mega Man X was my first Mega Man game, and after playing all the originals and the later X games, I still hold this one to be the best ever.

Graphics: 9
A gorgeous SNES game, the graphics were clean and sharp, the explosions and other effects such as breaking glass were very well executed. The lighting effects were superb, especially in Spark Mandrill's stage. The backgrounds were expertly crafted, and even the individual weapon effects blew me away. Every enemy was unique and designed with their strengths and weaknesses in mind.

Sound: 10
The greatest part of this game has to be the music. From the haunting chill of the Sigma intro to the balls-to-the-wall riffs of Spark Mandrill's stage music. I've burned the soundtrack to a CD and I listen to it on almost a daily basis. The only game soundtrack that comes close in greatness would be the Mega Man III or Final Fantasy VII soundtrack.

Gameplay: 10
The game takes the classic Mega Man "destroy all the bosses" approach and pumps it up. If I'm not mistaken, MMX was the first Mega Man game where you could upgrade X with heart tanks, energy tanks, and new armor as well; these were completely optional but were extremely useful for making your way through Sigma's Fortress. Another cool part is how defeating one stage would alter another stage (i.e. defeating Chill Penguin would freeze the lava in Flame Mammoth's stage). In this way certain stages could be made easier.

Overall: 10
While the X series has gone downhill over the years, MMX is still a testament to everything that a good Mega Man game should be.

An interesting note: MMX has been remade for PSP as "Maverick Hunter X". I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but apparently it has remixed music, better graphics, and the ability to play as the Bounty Hunter you fight in the beginning. Needless to say, I'll have to pick it up soon.

A game among games. I never was a big fan of Megaman, thought it didn't have a good enough story (thats what happens when you make 8 games of it), but then my prayers where answered in the form of this awsome game...Megaman X!

Graphics: 9
The graphics are very good for a snes and even thought I play PS2 and Gamecube, these graphics are still just as good.

Sound: 10
The one thing that makes me love the Megaman X Saga is the music. It's amazing. The fact that evey level has a different song is great. Then again the music in the Megaman series was good too.

Gameplay: 9
The game play is very good, keeping the same plan and functions as the other Megaman games apart of actually having a button to slide and not having to press down + B.

Overall: 9
Overall I give this game a 9 because in all, this game started it all, now that there's 8 of them and Command Mission. The sounds are great and so are the graphics. The game play follows through perfectly and the story is perfect.

Like I said, this a game among games. Great detail and it's the begining of a legend. Now if only they could make a Megaman X9 so it can beat the Megaman series (nothing wrong with it but I like more Megaman X, and less Megaman Zero lol)

The next generation of Mega Man... obviously, that's a tough act to see through. And Capcom succeeded. Very, very well at that. The result is Mega Man X, a game that not only brings Mega Man to the next level, but makes the ride a joyful and addictive one as well.

Graphics: 9
The new standards for graphics make the game feel more like an interactive anime film. The imaginative bosses and worlds are given as much space as they need graphic-wise; no reductions like in past Mega Man games.

Sound: 9
Armoured Armadillo's tune in particular makes me stop playing just to listen to the music. Musicwise, this game bears head and shoulders above all previous Mega Man games. It's not background themes for a video game; it's a score. Need I say more?

Gameplay: 9
The new setting and storyline allows for bigger creative space than any of the previous Mega Man games could offer. The new boss characters, the Mavericks, are more imaginative than any original Mega Man game's boss character. This time, they have animal appearances and characteristics, and are much more captivating as a result. You'll have a lot of fun battling through each world and working out each boss' techniques and weaknesses.

Overall: 9
A dawn for a new beginning, to use an old but true cliché. And a very good beginning at that. Mega Man X is a fantastic piece of work, taking something we already know well and shaping it out of all recognition, making it far better than it was before. In a word, wow.

This won't let you down, especially if you are a Mega Man fan but by no means necessarily so.

Me? I'm a Megaman veteran. You name the game, I played it or beat it. I thought that Megaman X was a good game. It had a semi-good storyline, the upgrades were cool, and the added bonus of finding upgrades, sub-tanks, and heart tanks to increase your life made it more challenging and fun, in my opinion.

Graphics: 7
I give the graphics a 7, only because i have a GameCube now and the graphics seem to be.....bad, but for its time, the graphics are actually quite good. Megaman and the Mavericks are pretty detailed, so I definitely give Capcom some credit.

Sound: 8
I give the game an 8 on sound, because I thought that the music from most of the levels was very good. The sound effects and boss music also caught my attention, because they seemed to be good too.

Gameplay: 7
I give the overall gameplay a 7, because the game wasnt that challenging, with the exception of the second form of Sigma and that pesky Spider in the first level of his fortress. The game had a lot of ups and downs, but it really did have a lot more ups.

Overall: 8
Overall, this games a really, really good example of a fine Megaman adventure.

I really enjoyed this game, and I think that everyone else that plays it will have the same fun that I did.

I've played many super nintendo games in the past, and a lot of Megaman games as well. This is by far my favorite. It started the X series off well, and I wish the other MMX games were more like this.

Graphics: 9
The graphics are detailed and very colorful, but not TOO colorful like Megaman 7. The sprites move smoothly, and the movements on the bosses were exceptional. There also aren't any sprites that look too big or too small. Although I thought Chill Penguin being smaller than X was kind of amusing.
I also enjoyed the mavericks actually exploding with smoke and fire rather than a little yellowish puff like in the NES games.

Sound: 10
By far the best sound quality of all the X games. Even though a few themes were a bit boring and quiet, I enjoyed most of them, especially Flame Mammoth's and Storm Eagle's. And none of them were scratchy or repetitive like in MMX3. The boss music seemed to fit the battles well.
The sound effects weren't cheesy or overdone. X's normal buster shots didn't sound like the ones in the NES games, which was great. It sounded more like an X-Buster should. I also liked each weapon having its own sound effect instead of them all sounding like a normal buster shot.

Gameplay: 10
Unlike X2 and X3, you don't start out with the dash. Until you get the dash, maneuvering is pretty rough, since you have no speed. But the control is incredible, and it isn't too sensitive.
The bosses are easy, but the levels can be a challenge, if you like challenging yourself. Filling your sub tanks is always fun.
I come back to playing this one more than any other, since the plot is right to the point, although most of it is in the manual.

Overall: 9
This game is by far the most enjoyable, whether is being the awesome sound quality or the great control of X. Capcom really worked on this one. The only thing wrong with it is that it doesn't tell you one thing: IS X the original Megaman? Or is he totally new? I didn't like the X games being somewhere in between, rather than either Megaman or something new.

If you can find it, get this game. It's a classic.

Graphics: Very good for SNES, but X2 and X3's graphic are much better. Of course X2 and X3 had a C4 chip.

Sound: Nice sound that suits the levels. Emulators don't always play it right though.

Gameplay: If you play the game in the right order, you'll get almost everything on the first go around. Has a OK replay value, since some levels affects other levels. But some bosses are just jokes.

Overall: Pretty good for it's time.

The original MegamanX game was and probably still is my favorite Megaman game. The background graphics are kind of crummy, but hey, it's an older game, so what can you really expect? Many don't agree, but I find the music and SFX in X1 to be really good. (My personal favorites are the Bridge Level and Storm Eagle's level.) Gameplay is generally good, although Chill Penguin and Storm Eagle are sub-average in difficulty than the other bosses. I think the Special Weapons are the best in X1, because they are mostly offensive,(with the exception of Rolling Shield.) and they each have a special purpose. Enjoy this ROM, as it's one of the best out there.

The first Megaman X game...

Graphics

Must have been amazing going from Megaman 6 to Megaman X. They still look great.

Sound

The sound FX are great, don't get me wrong there. But the music got seriously improved in Megaman X2 and X3.

Gameplay

Improved from Megaman 6. Which had great gameplay. Hard to improve on.

Storyline

Dr. Light makes a new robot, Megaman X, and seals him away for 30 years to mature. 100 years later (malfunction?) Dr. Cain finds him and makes more robots based on his blueprints, which go crazy. Reminds me of Megaman but the gameplay makes up for it as always.

Difficulty

Some mavericks are hard, others are pathetic. Sigma is brilliant though.

Overall

It's a Megaman X game. It's the original Megaman X game. It's good. :)
