| In the late 90s and early 2000s, "Tweenies" was a big deal in the UK. The four Technicolor puppet children were a big hit on the BBC and spawned a few bits of merchandise, including several hit singles and, yes, a video game. Even for a simple task as "make a Tweenies video game", they failed on every level.
Graphics: 1 These are some of the worst graphics I've ever seen on the PS1. The characters, even by PS1 standards, are way too blocky. Sound: 1 The audio is horribly bit-crushed. There's no excuse for it to sound this bad, as the game does not take up that much space. They could have used Red Book audio for the music and less compressed XA audio for the voices and sound effects. Gameplay: 2 You can beat the game in 10 minutes. Considering how much this probably cost when new, this is pretty inexcusable. There's also an occasional bug that can crash the entire game. Did anyone playtest this? Aside from that, the gameplay is meh, with several cookie cutter minigames like "copy the buttons" and "collect the objects". Overall: 1 I do not like the "It's made for kids, why should the quality matter?" excuse. I played this when I was young and hated it. I generally loved video games as a kid (even if, today, I'd consider them bad, like that Sabrina game) so if 5 y/o me hated it, there's no excuse. Oh, and the Tweenies game on Game Boy Color is only a teeny tiny bit better, so if you're to play a Tweenies game, go with Doodle's Bones. Do NOT play Game Time. |
