| Tekken 3 is a traditional fighting game for the PlayStation released in 1998, made by Namco, and released in multiple regions worldwide. It is the sequel to Tekken 2, and is succeeded by Tekken Tag Tournament.
Graphics: 9 Let's start with the GFX. The graphics in this game hold up extremely well, arguably being second only to the arcade version (which ran at a slightly higher resolution). Sound: 9 Moving on to sound design, it's amazing in this game. Rarely do you come across a sound you end up absolutely despising. Every sound effect gives that OOMPH to your actions, making the game more satisfying to play. The voice lines also give each character more uniqueness, making the roster feel more varied, despite there being less characters than newer installments. Gameplay: 9 Now on to gameplay, it, like the graphics, holds up extremely well, especially when you might expect game-breaking bugs from other old fighting games like infinite combos. There is some jank like the while running left kick dealing too much (+17) blockstun, but overall, the game is extremely well balanced and lends itself to a competitively fair experience. Tekken 3 revolutionized the 3D fighting game genre. For example, the huge jumps from the previous games were replaced with the ability to sidestep attacks, giving way to more nuanced and fun gameplay. The non-VS modes aren't too bad either. Tekken Ball, for instance, provides a nice break from the 1v1 combat you may have grown weary of. Overall: 9 Overall Tekken 3 is an amazing fighting game, both for its time, and today. I highly recommend anyone to give this game a try. To anyone who finds newer fighting games like Tekken 8 to lack skill/enjoyability, Tekken 3 will surely not disappoint, and may even find its place in your heart as one of your favorite games like it did to me. This is a fighting game, as such, there is a lot of practice and advanced techniques, especially online. You'll want to spend lots of time in the practice mode (the lab). Another note: the US version is online standard, the JP version is texture modding standard AND has the input display in practice mode, while the EU version is never used because it runs at 50Hz (yet also as the input display) You're still reading?! Just play the game already, and good luck! |
