Criticom is a fighting game that takes place in a generic sci-fi universe. The characters are fighting for a powerful relic called... The Relic. The story is set up like a sweeping sci-fi epic, but it's all downhill from there...
Graphics: 4 Not terrible for PS1, but the characters do look pretty blocky and pixelated. The stages are generic sci-fi settings. Not terrible for PS1, but definitely lacking in creativity. The character designs are hit or miss. Some of them look pretty cool, but as you get upgrades they become cluttered and look like amateur custom character creations. Sound: 4 A few of the sound tracks are nice, and each stage has its own theme, but the sound effects range from bland to annoying and the voice acting, what little there is, sounds pretty bad. The announcer is some robotic-sounding lady that doesn't know how to emote. What bumps this up a little bit, though, is the awesome ending credits theme. Gameplay: 2 A horrible, clunky, and slow fighting system with no depth. Worse, you have to fight all the characters three times. There's three "levels" where characters get cosmetic upgrades and a few extra moves, but not much else changes, so it becomes a long, redundant slog. In short, this game ain't Tekken. Overall: 2 This is the worst fighting game I've ever played. It's not worth the space on your hard drive. Don't even try it. What else can I say? It sucks. Don't play it. |
