Spider The Videogame released 02/26/1997 is a platformer released by Take-Two Interactive, which stars a Spider with a slasher leg and webbing that picks up upgrades and utilizes them in unique 2.5D scrolling platformer gameplay that you'll navigate through as a small one spider militia.

I'm not going to say that this is a visually bad game. But I wouldn't say that this is visually impressive, in the sense that the visuals really just get the job done. But I gave the game an 8 considering that the cutscenes that you see within this game, though comparable to The Heart of Darkness it's actually still really impressive in the sense of how much smoother it is. This game does have a mixture of 3D and 2D assets I should mention and the mixture is done pretty sparingly and what we do get out of that is a visually pleasing game. Though I wouldn't say that this is something along the levels of something that will take you aback in awe, like say Assault Retribution where the game is a lot more limited even with a year's time between both releases. The difference between Spider and Retribution is mostly down to not just execution but also what was there at the time. Considering that we didn't see many if any spider protagonists compared to cybernetic warriors fighting against aliens. Spider is in of itself, a graphically solid game, but it's not something that you're going to pick out as a first pick if you're looking for something more visually impressive.

Sound: 8
I'm putting this at 8 for two reasons.

1 - The OST is pretty damn good. If you want some notable tracks there's "The Mechanical Arm Boss" and "Lab Floor, Lab Top" which are really good at showing off this game's tracks when its at its best in the game, at least in my opinion.

What brings it down to an 8 though is reason 2.

2 - The sound effects are either unfitting or a bit on the iffy side.

If you want the best example of an unfitting sound, just pick up any item and you'll get the idea as to why. Considering that the sound effects sounds like something removed from this game belonging to a different one entirely. Perhaps this was just maybe a placeholder sound that never got removed and people grew attached to. But personally it's just not my thing. Maybe it will be for you though.

Gameplay: 9
The gameplay is a platformer where you can climb up surfaces like a spider. You can use flame throwers, rockets, and more. This game is really new player friendly and holds a lot of replay value considering how short it is, but that's also part of why the gameplay gets a 9 instead of a 10. Though in most cases, a short game with a lot of replay value is a good thing, I think I could say that Spider might just be on the too short side of things. Where maybe even an extra half hour of gameplay for a game that might take you at most 2 hours to beat is kind of disappointing considering the unique concept and really solid gameplay presented throughout.

Overall: 8
This is a game definitely worth people's time if they're looking for something unique to play on the console or looking for games that were never released again past the PSX. Though I think that it should be said that this game definitely isn't for everyone, and could really easily be off putting to players considering what other great platformers are home to the console. But if you're looking for something short, simple and fun, Spider is definitely worth trying out. Even in 1997 the game was though not highly desired to get and play through the word of mouth, but there were more people who enjoyed this game than didn't and reviewers at least give this game a 7 out of 10 too at a minimum. So I don't personally think that giving this game my honest opinion of an 8 is anything unfair. Considering that I would otherwise give this an 8.5 out of 10 if I could.

Spider The Video Game is a game that's enjoyable to just about anyone who enjoys unique platformers with a cool spin or take on the genre as a whole. If there's one thing that could be said that would make this game better at least in my opinion is changing the pickup noise and adding more content to the game overall if there were ever a future port.

Sure the pickup sound isn't as egregious as Eggs of Steel. But, it definitely can off put a player like myself but if you're able to look past something as minor as that, you really got yourself a solid game on your hands and worth your time playing.
