Marlwolf78 with his 2nd review (First is Wolfenstein 3-D)! Today, we'll be reviewing Golden Axe, an arcade port to the Genesis. Golden Axe was one of the first "you and 3 other guys go and play a game for a quarter each" arcade games, and it was fun until arcade managers started making those a dollar a go.
Graphics: 8 The graphics fit the scenes: A medieval setting in which you kill soldiers warriors, magicians, and dragons. (All in the 1st level) Your magic is kind of cool too, and watching the carnage unfold as you unleash a Level 4 Blast is awesome. The graphics aren't that spectacular though. Sound: 10 I liked the title, I liked level 1-3(as far as I got)'s background music, I loved hearing the screams of terror from the slain; This sound rocks! The music is enjoyable to listen to, and that makes this game even more fun. Gameplay: 8 The gameplay is pretty good. You are a guy who needs to save his kingdom by taking the long way to the enemy: straight down the middle. The controls are simple: A is magic, B is attack, and C is jump. The enemies take a little longer to defeat than I'd like, and the bosses are almost impossible without magic. Otherwise, it's the kind of game you'd spend 2 dollars on trying to beat. Overall: 8 The game was fun. Easy and short. There was a nice level of difficulty, and a choice of characters at the beginning. The controls were easy, so playing this game is a breeze once you've mastered them. All of this put together makes Golden Axe hit the target straight up ons! THIS GAME RECEIVES MARLWOLF'S SEAL OF APPROVAL! |
