Review this game

This game is my most played by far. I have poured at least 2000 hours into various versions of the game. This review mainly compares the game to modern releases, specifically Java Edition.

Graphics: 8
This game hit the nail on the head when it came to replicating the game's graphics. No compromises were made and it was clear that the PS3's supercomputer-like architecture was taken advantage of to the fullest, which is good to see. The classic textures have its timeless charm, but the newer ones are objectively better.

Sound: 10
The sound never fails to mesmerize even *before* you launch the game, with C418's Wet Hands playing on the home page right as you launch the game. The music lulls you into a serene daze as you wistfully recall the wholesome moments of your childhood before the world went to shit. It really is quite magical.

The sound effects are satisfying and reflect the game environment perfectly, with the world feeling alive. Small details like the menu music continuing after you've loaded the game help to really make the game special.

Gameplay: 6
The gameplay of Minecraft is, undoubtedly, excellent. Its gentle progression and wide variety of challenges and combination of both casual and competitive elements make for a great experience. However, a lack of content (the latest update is equivalent to 1.13) is quite sad. Every single update after the game was discontinued (except for 1.15, that was a weird one) has added large amounts of new content as well as quality-of-life improvements.

The exclusive content is where 4J studios' hard work really shines, though. The tutorial worlds (which were made by professional artists) are filled with secrets and references to previous tutorial worlds as a small wink to its past. See if you can find them! The minigames were unparalleled (Battle and Glide are the tied best, sorry Tumble, you just weren't unique enough) and the small size meant that a lot of fun workarounds related to terrain generation had to be made. Everything is packed tightly into the world, and you will sometimes spawn in front of a Woodland Mansion, which you *never* see in Java edition unless you want to walk thousands of blocks, leading to a world that feels alive and thriving.

Overall: 9
Minecraft is a staple in any PlayStation 3 game collection. It's a shame that it won't see updates, but at least 4J are working on another game independently now. Minecraft: PlayStation 3 and its other cousins (Xbox 360, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and so on) brought legions of fans into the game for the first time, myself included, and that isn't anything to turn one's nose at. Well done, Minecraft. You made children smile around the world.
