| Freekstyle is an extreme racing game where you use tricks, shortcuts, and boosts to outspeed your opponents. The main goal of the game is to fill your boost and freek meter by landing tricks. The "freek" meter once filled lets you do a "super sick trick" which gives you infinite boost for up to 15 seconds the timer increases every time you land a trick. So the name of the game is to stay in freekout as long as you can to get the best times.
Graphics: 7 Graphics are good but I think they're a bit hindered by the maps. They have iconic set pieces like flaming hoops, rockets, and even cooling towers but I won't lie I feel like the color scheme chosen is poor, with a lot of dark colors. It suffers from a problem where sometimes it feels like you're racing around the map and not really in it. It's kind of hard to explain but it seems like all of the cool stuff in the maps is in the out of bounds area. Sound: 8 Sound is nice. The commentary is fun and the sounds for tricks, activating your freekout and breaking glass never gets old. The only sound that could get repetitive is the sound of the engine but even that can be turned down. Additionally every sound can be customized to your liking you can even mute everything if you wanted to. Gameplay: 9 Gameplay is flat out good. Boosting to big jumps, landing big tricks and trying to stay in freekout is fun yet very challenging. I would call this a game faster version of SSX yet this isn't like any other racer you have played. This game gives you what you give it. You will be rewarded for keeping your speed, staying in freekout, mastering the controls, knowing the fast routes, and not crashing. Freekstyle has two ways to play, going for the fastest time possible and going for the highest score. Going for score is a different ball game. There's secret paths for bigger jumps, a combo system which allows you to score even more points and bonuses for using all of your tricks. The game will penalize you if you use the same trick over and over as you will get less and less points. You are encouraged to mix up your tricks as using all of them will give you a huge point bonus. The key to getting big scores is knowing the best route, knowing your combos, knowing when to use certain tricks and using your medley bonuses which is a score bonus given to you for every 5 unique tricks you use. Overall: 9 Freekstyle is a game that uses speed and tricks to keep you on your toes. There's never a dull moment there's always a shortcut or a big jump to take. If you like racing games or just want something fast and fun you should have no problem jumping into this game. My only additional comments are to please learn the game before you make any harsh judgements on it. Even if you think it's bad or not fun, one thing is for certain the people who made this game cared about the quality. This game wasn't made for a quick buck or a cash grab. You can tell by the characters and the maps and content this game had care put into it. |
